“For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.” Romans 8:6

There are only two paths your thoughts can walk: the fleshly or the spiritual. One ends in death, the other in life and peace. The choice sounds simple—but it’s made moment by moment, thought by thought.
The carnal mind is obsessed with the here and now. It’s the mind that craves comfort, control, and self-glory. It follows what feels good rather than what is good. This mind will never lead to lasting peace—it only feeds discontent. The Bible warns us plainly: “To be carnally minded is death.” Not merely physical death, but spiritual deadness—a heart numb to the things of God. The carnal mind is weak, comfort seeking and easily offended and moved.
Yet, the spiritual mind is filled with life-giving thoughts that align with the heart of God. It is not natural—it must be nurtured. Fed by Scripture, strengthened through prayer, and guided by the Holy Ghost.
“Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.” Galatians 5:16
“Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.” Colossians 3:2
You can’t feed both minds and expect one not to grow. If you’re constantly consuming what pleases the flesh—entertainment that dulls conviction, conversations that stir pride, habits that quench the Spirit—don’t be surprised when peace seems distant.
“The carnal mind is the enemy of God because it refuses to be ruled by God.” — Dr. R.A. Torrey
But here’s the promise: when your mind is fixed on Christ, peace reigns. Not the kind the world gives, but a deep, soul-settling peace that passes understanding (Philippians 4:7). This is the fruit of feeding your spirit daily.
Challenge for Today:
Evaluate what you’re feeding your soul. Is your spiritual appetite growing or shrinking? What you feed will live. What you starve will die. Choose life and peace by choosing the spiritual.
Let us say with David, “Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.” Psalm 51:10
