IN THE PRESENCE OF EVIL

We undeniably live in a world darkened by evil. From the tragic events nearly 24 years ago when thousands were slain, to the recent horrific act against a man of God, we see that senseless violence is a stark reality. Yet we must not be shocked, for the Bible forewarned us of perilous times and a world where love grows cold and sin abounds.
But here is a crucial point: evil cannot be coddled, condoned, or tolerated, despite what popular ideas may suggest. Evil can only be overcome. The Bible instructs us to overcome evil with good. And as we do this, we must recognize not just the “what” of evil, but the “who.” Yes, Satan is at the helm, with many led astray to do his will against God’s truth.
We’re in a battle not of politics or personal opinions, but of right and wrong defined by God’s truth. As George Orwell noted, the further a society drifts from truth, the more it will embrace evil.
Yet we are not left powerless. Romans 8:37 reminds us that we are more than conquerors through Christ. We have already overcome the enemy through the blood of Jesus. So, as believers, let’s stand firm in that truth and continue to shine light in the presence of evil. We must stand for Christ and against evil, my pastor of old taught me, “If you stand for nothing, you’ll fall for anything.”
Let us not entertain the wicked, nor tolerate those who advocate their cause, but rather follow the words of 1 Corinthians 15:58: “Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.”
